Before we start discussing how to generate leads, I want to cover why you should start collecting emails to get subscribers.
To summarize we can say that capturing email is really important for three main aspects:
- First… this is maybe the best way to create a relationship with people who are landing on your site. And once you have this good relationship with your audience it is easier to request some sort of step that you would like them to take; it can be a referral or a push button such as a Like on your Facebook page, a tweet or even a purchase.
- Second reason it’s about the quality of the stream of traffic you are generating when you work on how to gain subscribers. Think about that for a while… you can’t count on Google forever. And I am not going to lie to you, today 77% of my traffic comes from SEO but this can change. If Google envision another crazy update I could lose my rankings and then I would be out of business. And this can happen to anyone! I don’t know if your main source of traffic is Social Media, RSS feed but you can potentially lose all your traffic overnight. The only way to keep your traffic alive is having a good list of qualified leads.
- The third point is about money! And I am not going to say here that the money is on the list, because being honest I really think that if you are not making money with a website while you are building your list, you are probably doing something wrong! The nice trick is to find an effective way to build a list and to make some profits during the process.
With that in mind, let’s see how to generate quality leads to your blog following some important concepts.
How to Generate Leads – It All Starts with Your Offer
This is not something new but people will not give you their email if you are giving away something that is not appealing! That is how it works.
Of course, when we are talking about RSS feed subscribers, your content must be good to increase your list but with emails, this is even more personal, because WE are about to give permission to that person be part of something that everyone of us is really cautious about it, our avenue for intimacy, our safe place, our private email address. That is really personal.
And that is not all! You have to create an amazing offer to make your list eager for more info! For instance, at the beginning of this post I informed you that 77% of my traffic comes from SEO and I know how hard it is to start seeing some traffic from Google. Humm… after some time I realized…
That is my offer! And you can get all those tactics right here!!
Actually I talked about offers in detail when I was covering email marketing strategies but this is not just the best way to generate leads but is also incredibly valuable to keep your audience engaged with you and your message. Because after all you need them to open your email, otherwise there is no point to capture those leads at all.
Now that you have a perfect offer, let’s see how to generate new leads to your list.
Just don’t forget to read that post about email marketing because there you will learn some basic points I am not going to cover here. OK… now let’s move on.
How to Get More Subscribers – Where to Place your Form
One really common spot to collect email leads is by placing your form in the sidebar of your website. This is effective because that is how you can guarantee that every single visitor who lands on your site will see your offer and if you made it enticing enough, that visitor could become a new subscriber.
The second option is to use pop ups! They are more effective than the first option but everybody knows they can be a little annoying.
Being honest, I hate those instant popups… and if you want to use this strategy I recommend you wait at least 30 seconds to your popup appear. Give the newcomer a change to browse through your site before asking for something. I am not sure, but I think I setup my pop up to appear after 90 seconds and just one time a day.
The third option it to place your offer at the end of every piece of content you have published. This is even better because you are not interrupting your visitors while they are reading and most important, here is a thing: after they have read your article … and here I am assuming you are working hard to create world-class content … when that is the case, they will be more engaged and that is definitely the best way to generate leads, this is an excellent opportunity to collect new subscribers to your list.
But how can you place a capture form at the end of each one of your posts?
There is really an easy way to do that… let me introduce you to OptinSkin!
Optinskin – Increasing Your List Naturally
This is a premium plugin for WordPress but it really worth every penny!
If you are familiarized with my blog you know I like to research other websites before writing my reviews and OptinSkin is being used a lot among the blogosphere. In addition to capturing emails this plugin also tracks the performance of your forms and keep track of your conversions so you can get the sense when your offer is working or not.
Listed here are some additional features:
There is a great variety of opt-in form templates so you can choose one that fits your website design. If you don’t like the standard templates you can fully customize them the way you like! You can add graphics; choose the right color, the font and so on.
Once you create your own form, now you just have to integrate it with your email provider. At the moment I was writing this OptinSkin review it could be used with Mailchimp, Feedburner, Aweber and Infusionsoft.
I told you the best place to add your form would be at the end of each post but OptinSkin gives you the opportunity of choosing different places, such as the top, at the end of the first paragraph, at the bottom or any place you wish if you use widgets or short codes to add your new form.
PS: That is it everybody. I finally created a publishing schedule so for now on my new posts will be published every Thursday morning. That is it! See you next time!
